What is a Catechist?

A catechist is a teacher of our faith. As a catechist, you will help our children grades 2-5 who are enrolled in the Sacramental Prep Program to prepare for 1st Reconciliation & 1st Eucharist

When are classes?

Basically the commitment is as follows:

  1. Help facilitate all 5 Sac Prep sessions typically occurring on the 3rd Sunday of the month from 12-3 pm, in November, January, February, March & April.
  2. Attend the parish wide penance service in the spring during Lent to help facilitate for 1st Reconciliation.
  3. Help with 1st Communion Mass(es), usually scheduled the last Saturday in April.

Will I have any help or support?

ABSOLUTELY!! We work together as a team to share ideas and plan and to help each other. We encourage you to; if possible, invite your spouse, your older children, or a friend to teach with you!

How much of a time commitment is it?

The time spent as a catechist depends on many factors; you would definitely need to be here for all 5 sessions (15 hours), the Reconciliation service (2 hours) & 1st Communion Mass (1.5 hours) but there would also sometimes be home preparation time needed as well as 2-3 planning meetings (2 hours).

Thank you for prayerfully considering helping the children of our faith community.
